What even is HobPot
HobPot is a space hosting a wonderful community of individuals who are keen to explore the world of Technology. Here I discuss vast topics, covering latest tech-breakthroughs, interesting math topics, and weird physics.
This blog has the potential to grow into something much bigger, and I hope to see it evolve with the contributions of our community. Soon personal spaces and groups will be added to better host this ever growing society of hobbiests.
A Bit About Me
I'm a passionate highschool student, eager to express my passion for Computer Science and Mathematics. I love posing complex ideas in silly little projects or expressing them in forms of art.
An inspirational piece - my motive
When I first came across 'A Mathematician's Lament' by Paul Lockhart, I instantly grasped the massive gap in our Mathmatics education. How could something so beautiful be masked by the need to make it "practical" and "useful"? I have taken it as my mission to make Math education more engaging, by showing the hidden art behind it and how it really relates to subjects like maths and physics. Why the name?
HobPot stands for 'Humanity Is Obliviously Blinded To Powers Of Ten', weren't expecting that weren't you? Though this seemingly random phrase that I keep thinking about holds so much inner meaning that it makes up for its strange wording.
The number system
as humans, our thinking is often biased towards thinking in our base-10 system. After all, thats why stores marker prices one unit less than the actual price, as any power of ten seems like a significant change. We forget that the decimal system means nothing to the actual universe, and it is a figment of our imagination inherited by our ancestors, neither effective nor efficient.
The box
The box is a metaphor for our limited perspective, where we often confine ourselves to familiar concepts and frameworks. This blog aims to break out of that box, encouraging exploration beyond conventional boundaries and embracing the vastness of knowledge and creativity. By thinking outside the box, I hope to make this blog a space for innovation.
